As a mentee, you
- Receive clinical or basic research support.
- Develop new research skills and learn new techniques.
- Develop ideas for future research projects.
- Integrate into a research network that can offer new impulses and tailored help (grants application, research techniques and know-how, etc.).
- Leverage your research journey purposefully.
Mentoring duration & funding:
- The final amount allocated to a mentee will depend on the nature and location of the mentor’s institution.
- Funds reserved for the mentee will be transferred to the bank account provided in the application.
- Funds will be released once both the mentor and mentee have confirmed acceptance of the mentoring collaboration.

As a mentor, you:
- Get insights into current research.
- Receive fresh ideas and perspectives from emerging academics.
- Identify, develop and recruit qualified young talent for research collaborations.
- Reflect on your own work.
- Build connections with fellow mentors.
Institution Engagement & Compensation:
- The ITI will compensate the host university or academic institution for the mentor’s time, use of facilities, administrative support, and other related costs incurred during the mentee’s stay.
- Mentors participating in the ITI Research Mentoring program are responsible for overseeing their mentees and providing the necessary onboarding to ensure successful collaboration.
- Compensation to the mentor’s institution may not exceed 25% of the research mentoring grant allocated to the mentee.
- Compensation for the institution will be processed upon receipt of an invoice.

- All mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
- Complete all required fields and submit the form before the application deadline.
All complete and valid applications are forwarded to the ITI Research Committee for assessment. Committee members review applications based on the following criteria:
- Preferred duration and location of the hosting institution
- Match between the mentee and available mentors
- Field of research, objectives, and potential impact
- Candidate profile and quality of the proposal
Candidates are matched to a mentor based on their background, qualifications, research objectives, and preferences expressed in the application.
The mentor reviews the candidate’s profile and informs ITI Headquarters whether they accept the candidate for a collaboration project. If a deferral occurs, the mentor or the ITI Research Committee may propose an alternative mentor or institution.
Applicants are informed once the mentor has confirmed acceptance. If accepted, ITI Headquarters provides the applicant with details regarding the assigned mentor, location, scope, and funding for the mentoring period.
Possible Outcomes of Your Application
- Acceptance
- Request for additional information or a modified mentoring proposal
- Recommendation to consider alternative mentors or institutions
- Rejection
- Upon acceptance of the mentoring grant, both the mentee and mentor are required to sign a short agreement confirming their participation in the collaboration. Mentees will have access to their application record through the ITI Research Portal.
- Depending on the selected mentoring duration, one or two progress reports may be requested. Mentees must complete these reports and submit them online via the ITI Research Portal to document the progress and outcomes of the program.
- At the conclusion of the mentoring period, both mentees and mentors must confirm the end of the collaboration and complete the survey provided by ITI Headquarters. Upon completion, the mentee will receive a certificate of completion.
- Completing the application form does not guarantee acceptance into the ITI Research Mentoring Program.
- The ITI cannot guarantee the availability of preferred locations or mentors.
- All applications and supporting documents must be submitted in English.
- Mentees must be willing to travel to the mentor’s facilities, and all travel arrangements are the responsibility of the mentee.
- Mentees are responsible for coordinating appointments with their mentor.
- The ITI’s role is to connect accepted applicants with their mentor of choice or a suitable alternative.
- The ITI disclaims any and all liability for damages that may arise from or in connection with the research mentoring program.
