Are Implant Assisted Full Dentures Really Better than Conventional Dentures?
This lecture discusses the treatment of edentulism as a chronic condition and denture therapy as a palliative treatment with the aim of improving function and quality of life. A key concept is that patient satisfaction should be the standard by which denture success is measured.
The focus of this lecture is a study comparing mandibular complete conventional dentures vs. overdentures retained by two implants. These results clearly show that implant overdentures exceed patient expectations and were rated higher by patients for a number of quality-of-life benchmarks. The lecture concludes with information on three-implant, single-implant, and mini-implant overdentures.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- discuss treatment planning considerations for implant overdentures
- compare satisfaction and quality of life outcomes for implant overdentures and conventional dentures
- describe the advantages and disadvantages of three-implant, single-implant, and mini-implant overdentures
