Fixed Options for Fully Edentulous Elderly Patients
In this lecture German Gallucci discusses the special considerations involved in treating elderly edentulous patients with fixed, implant-supported prostheses. He presents evidence that age and gender are not determinants in the choice between a fixed or removable prosthesis. However, elderly patients may have specific concerns that must be addressed when developing treatment plans aimed at replacing their missing teeth. Multiple cases are presented to illustrate this deliberate approach to fixed prosthetic solutions in elderly patients, including the use of mini-implants and computer-guided planning and surgery.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- define the factors which will determine whether an elderly patient is suitable for rehabilitation with fixed, implant-supported prostheses
- understand the concerns that elderly patients may have when considering complex and invasive treatments
