WS2024 - State of the Art in Computer-assisted Surgery – Static Surgery and Dynamic Navigation
ITI World Symposium 2024 lecture by Tim Joda - part of the "Digital Workflows" session.
CAS can be seen as an entry point into the personalized implant workflow. Several CAS systems are available to translate a virtually planned implant scenario into the clinical situation today. In general, a distinction must be made between 2 main approaches: computer-assisted static surgery (CASS) and computer-assisted dynamic navigation (CADN). This lecture introduces the principles of both approaches and highlights their possibilities and limitations from different points of view. Finally, the necessary technical requirements and interfaces as well as the clinical capabilities for CASS and CADN will be summarized.

At the end of this lecture you should be able to...
- explain the benefits of guided surgery
- discuss the relative benefits of CASS and CADN
- describe the additional requirements to use CASS and CADN
