About the Scholarship Center Institute of Science Tokyo

About the Scholarship Center

The Institute of Science Tokyo was established on October 1, 2024, through the merger of Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech). Founded in 1928, TMDU was Tokyo’s only national university and one of Japan’s oldest dental schools. The Faculty of Dentistry emphasizes holistic care, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving from an international perspective, collaborating with over 50 universities worldwide. In 2024, it achieved top rankings, including first place in Japan and fourth globally in the QS World University Rankings.

The ITI Center at the Institute of Science Tokyo offers a unique program for scholars, featuring rotations through three departments: Regenerative and Reconstructive Dental Medicine, Periodontology, and Gerodontology, with four months in each. This rotational system provides a comprehensive understanding of implant dentistry from multiple perspectives. In Regenerative and Reconstructive Dental Medicine, scholars learn prosthetically driven implant treatments, bone augmentation techniques, and advanced procedures like All-on-4. The Periodontology department focuses on managing biological and aesthetic complications related to implants, while Gerodontology addresses implant treatments for patients with systemic conditions and advanced technologies such as digital dentures.

The program includes lectures, practical training, seminars, workshops, and clinical courses, encouraging participation in national and international congresses. Scholars engage in diverse research areas, including tissue regeneration, implant protocols, biomaterials, and digital workflows, collaborating with faculty members. The Institute of Science Tokyo is globally recognized for its impactful research and offers a dynamic environment where scholars build professional and personal networks, fostering future research collaborations. This comprehensive program ensures scholars are well-equipped in education, research, and clinical practice.
