Overview of clinical activities during the Scholarship year

Activities during the Scholarship year

During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following clinical activities:

☒ Treatment planning sessions
☐ Performing oral hygiene procedures and maintenance
☒ Observing patient treatment
☒ Assisting in patient treatment

       ☐ Restoring implants
☒ Laboratory and procedures associated with treatment

Emphasis is placed on digital procedure experience.
For the following reasons ITI Scholars are not normally able to treat patients: Assignment of patients to the ITI scholar is not permitted under School policy. Hands on procedures assisted and performed by the scholar will take place in conjunction with treatment of patients assigned to specialty residents and faculty.
Language skills and level needed to work with/treat patients: TOEFL or IELTS certificate required.

During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following research activities:

☒ Development and coordinated involvement with existing center research activities
☒ Involvement in preclinical research
☐ Involvement in translational research
☒ Involvement in clinical research
☒ Mentors will be assigned to the Scholar according to their research preference
☒ Scholars will be able to start their own research projects

The Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate):

· 60% patient care
· 20% research
· 20% didactic (lectures and/or courses the Scholar can attend)
The lectures, classes and/or courses the Scholar can attend will be held in the following language: English.

The ITI scholar can expect to gain extensive clinical experience both in placement and restoration of dental implants. Didactic coursework, primarily in seminar format, is available and encouraged. Case conferences and treatment planning seminars occur weekly and the scholar is expected to participate. There is excellent opportunity for the scholar to participate in ongoing basic science, mechanical or clinical research projects.
It must be emphasized that the ITI Scholar's program year will reflect the ITI Scholar's personal wish for experience. Those wishing to further their surgical exposure will spend more time with the surgical faculty while those interested in prosthodontics will spend the majority of their time in the prosthodontic clinic. ITI Scholars will participate in case conference and treatment planning seminars as well as other didactic exposure as agreed to between faculty and the ITI Scholar. The key to this Scholarship opportunity is flexibility in surgical and prosthodontic experience. If interested, the Scholar will participate in ongoing research projects within the school.
