About the Scholarship Center
The Department of Oral Implantology at West China Hospital of Stomatology is the first dental implant clinical, scientific research, and teaching base established in the country. It is currently one of the three National Key Clinical Specialty Centers in Implantology approved nationwide. The Department has a strong technical staff and practices an advanced level of medical treatment. It runs several National and Ministry of Health projects and also receives provincial and municipal science and technology funding.
ITI Scholars will participate in the whole treatment flow under staff supervision. Scholars have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary treatment sessions and are welcome to take part in seminars or journal clubs with postgraduate students. A team approach is taken in clinical services and the program will be arranged as far as possible with the needs of the candidates in mind.
Activities during the Scholarship year
During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following clinical activities:

☐ Performing oral hygiene procedures and maintenance
☒ Observing patient treatment
☒ Assisting in patient treatment
☒ Treating patients under faculty supervision
☒ Placing implants
☒ Restoring implants
☐ Treating patients alone
☐ Placing implants

☒ Laboratory and procedures associated with treatment
ITI Scholars will need to obtain a limited license to work with patients
Language skills and level needed to work with/treat patients: basic Chinese

The medical practitioner qualification certificate is needed to obtain a temporary license to participate in clinical services in our faculty.
During the Scholarship year, the ITI Scholar will participate in the following research activities:
☒ Development and coordinated involvement with existing center research activities
☐ Involvement in preclinical research
☐ Involvement in translational research
☒ Involvement in clinical research
☒ Mentors will be assigned to the Scholar according to their research preference
☐ Scholars will be able to start their own research projects
Ongoing research projects:CONSTRUCTION AND APPLICATION OF MULTIDIMENSIONAL COHORT DATABASE IN CHINESE ORAL IMPLANT POPULATION
The Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate):
· 80% patient care
· 10% research
· 10% didactic (lectures and/or courses the Scholar can attend)
The lectures, classes and/or courses the Scholar can attend will be held in the following language: English and Chinese
Special requirements for this Scholarship Center:
Language requirements:
☒ Basic language skills in English and Chinese are required and skills higher than basic are an advantage
☒ The following language is required to follow lectures, classes and/or courses: English and Chinese
☒ Language required for treating patients (legal requirements): Chinese
☒ Language skills and level needed to follow lectures and engage in day-to-day conversation: basic Chinese
International applicants must present a TOEFL (score >90) or IELTS (score >6) certificate as proof of proficiency in English for non-native English or non-native Chinese speakers by the beginning of the ITI Scholarship program.
Special requirements:
Minimum 3 years' clinical experience. At least two years' postgraduate training in Prothodontics is an advantage. Research experience supported by scientific publications (original papers) is desired.
