Soft and Hard Tissue Around the Implant – What Do We Know?
This polished lecture presents histomorphometric studies to explain the close relationship between bone and implant design, especially the implant-abutment interface. The lecturer presents key factors to explain the behavior of hard and soft tissues at the very first step of osseointegration. He focuses on the interaction between the design of the implant and bone physiology. This presentation includes a complete review of implant designs and their interactions with the bone, supported by literature. The three primary implant types are discussed: one-piece implants, two-piece implants with butt joint interface, and two-piece implants with platform switching connection. This a cutting edge lecture on the bone-implant relationship.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- discuss bone remodeling according to the vertical position of the implant and the location of the abutment interface
- discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the different implant designs in term of hard and soft tissue relationship
- understand the interaction between the bone remodeling process and implant placement
