About the Scholarship Center

About the Scholarship Center

Our center has been routinely involved with implant dentistry for more than 30 years. Historically, many of our professionals have become part of the ITI during their academic career. In addition, the University of Bern has an outstanding record concerning further development of Scholars educated at the School of Dental Medicine in Bern.

The ITI Scholarship Program at the University of Bern involves the Department of Oral Surgery and Stomatology, the Department of Periodontology and the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology. The University of Bern can accept three scholars per year. Responsible for the acceptance of ITI Scholars are primarily Prof. Vivianne Chappuis (surgical scholars), Prof. Martin Schimmel (prosthetic scholars) and Prof. Giovanni Salvi (periodontal scholars). This university treats roughly 700 patients annually with more than 1000 implants inserted covering the whole spectrum of patients according to the SAC classification. The postdoctoral training at the three departments is closely coordinated to transfer the comprehensive spectrum of implant therapy.

Within the School of Dental Medicine cooperation related to patient treatment is available with the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Endodontology and Pediatric Dentistry, the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology and the Department of Oral Surgery, Oral Radiology and Stomatology.
