Management of Esthetic Implant Failures – Surgical Aspects

Daniel Buser

The lecture presents concepts for the treatment of patients with implant complications. The first part concentrates on esthetic failures related to surgical procedures. Several patient cases are shown to illustrate both surgical and prosthetic concepts for the management of complications. In particular, this presentation demonstrates the reverse-torque removal of incorrectly placed implants as well as subsequent bone augmentation. The second part of the lecture focuses on how these types of problems can be avoided from the outset by proper diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment execution. The lecturer presents the benefits of the ITI and the Online Academy in educating young clinicians about crucial factors that affect each of these phases. Those factors include timing of the implant placement, socket management, and esthetic risk assessment. Finally, long-term data on patients with fixed implant-supported prostheses from the University of Bern is presented.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • recognize and describe compromised implant situations
  • explain the factors that are crucial for avoiding implant complications
  • describe treatment options for compromised implant situations
