Surgical Treatment of Esthetic Disasters
In an organized and evidence-based lecture, Waldemar Polido outlines the causes of esthetic disasters and the treatment techniques available to correct them. He also explains how to use objective measurements to evaluate esthetic outcomes and thus identify esthetic failures.
Surgical techniques to correct esthetic disasters are analyzed, and indications and limitations for each are given: grafting around an osseointegrated implant, repositioning an osseointegrated implant, removing an implant that can not be esthetically restored, and reconstructing bone and/or soft tissue. Multiple clinical cases illustrate each of these techniques.
The lecture concludes with a discussion of medical errors as threats to implant outcomes and a list of ways to minimize these errors and thereby avoid esthetic disasters.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- identify what constitutes an esthetic disaster
- outline treatment planning and surgical steps to improve the esthetic result
- list factors that may lead to an esthetic disaster, and explain how to avoid them
