Sinus Floor Elevation Procedures: When Simultaneous, when Staged? When Early, when Late Loading?
This lecture discusses the challenges associated with restoring the posterior maxilla. Three different treatment modalities are discussed: short implants and sinus floor elevation using either the osteotome technique or the lateral window approach. A clinical decision-making flowchart is discussed, based on the remaining height and width of the maxillary alveolus. This lecture delivers an excellent overview of the various techniques used in sinus floor elevation, illustrated by numerous clinical cases and long-term follow up. Clinical tips to maximize success of GBR using composite grafts and a hydrophilic implant surface are also discussed.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- recognize that the posterior maxilla is a challenging area for implant therapy
- describe the three treatment options available in areas of reduced ridge height
- discuss which surgical technique is advocated dependent on the clinical and radiographic presentation
- recognize the advantages of composite grafts in guided bone regeneration
