Characteristics of Recent Prosthetic Materials
Congress Lecture
Prosthodontic Planning and Procedures
An esthetic implant restoration is the result of multiple factors, including the optical properties of the restorative materials in collaboration with light, the presence of adequate surrounding soft tissues, and the arrangement of the teeth.
This lecture presents the current restorative material options, from metal-ceramic restorations—the gold standard, with well-documented complications and esthetic limitations—to all-ceramic materials, which comprise the stronger oxide ceramics and more esthetic glass ceramics.
Concise summaries of the current literature on esthetic restorative materials are included as an aid to clinical decisions. A portion of the lecture is devoted to the newer monolithic CAD/CAM materials, especially resin nanoceramics and hybrid ceramics, along with their limitations and esthetic indications.
