Characteristics of Recent Prosthetic Materials
Computer-aided clinical and technical procedures have continuously gained in importance in treatment planning and execution. New technological possibilities also offer new options with respect to the selection of materials used for the implant abutment and prosthesis. CAD/CAM procedures are available to customize prosthetic components and to process materials like high-strength ceramics. However, the selection of materials remains a complex process. A non-ideal choice for the type and material of the abutment and reconstruction or the type of fixation can have a significant impact on the final outcome. This presentation outlines the development of a decision tree for the selection of the most appropriate material for different types of fixed implant reconstructions.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- explain how the esthetic outcome can be influenced by the selection of prosthetic material
- describe the effect of different materials and types of fixation on the biologic outcome
- explain which materials are best suited for different situations depending on region of the mouth and esthetic demands
