The Evolution to the SLActive Implant Surface
This lecture discusses the possibilities of hydrophilic SLActive implants. It describes the development of this technology in detail and also presents the existing evidence for the SLActive surface from both in vivo and clinical studies. The results of multiple animal studies are presented to demonstrate the significantly enhanced osseointegration compared to non-hydrophilic surfaces. Also presented are the results of a randomized controlled prospective human clinical trial comparing outcomes for SLA and SLActive surfaces. Finally, the lecture introduces the benefits of the titanium-zirconia (Ti-Zr) implant, which can expand the available treatment modalities in implant dentistry.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- describe the benefits of the SLActive surface
- explain the possible mechanisms behind the enhanced bone formation observed in the presence of hydrophilic surfaces
- describe the surface characteristics of titanium-zirconia (Ti-Zr) implants
