WS2024 - Complications in Bone Augmentation

Tara Aghaloo

ITI World Symposium 2024 lecture by Tara Aghaloo - part of the "GBR/Bone Augmentation" session.

Many complications can be avoided by identifying and managing systemic and local risk factors before grafting is performed. As more bone grafting materials and techniques are available and being performed by a larger number of clinicians, complications must be identified and managed early and thoroughly. This lecture will highlight risk factors associated with increased postoperative complications in bone augmentation procedures, and discuss the most frequent complications associated with horizontal and vertical grafting with implant placement.

At the end of this lecture you should be able to...

  • describe the most frequent complications associated with bone augmentation procedures
  • identify these complications and which are the critical factors in their treatment
  • recognise the risk factors/risk indicators associated with the occurrence of these complications and which are the critical factors in their prevention
