The Challenges of Reduced Diameter Implants
Reduced diameter implants have been developed to address the clinical problems of reduced prosthetic space, the need to replace teeth of small dimensions, and for sites with diminished bone volume.
In this lecture, the following topics will be addressed:
- The evidence for clinical outcomes with reduced diameter implants based on the most recent ITI Consensus Conference.
- Materials used for the manufacture of reduced diameter implants, including titanium alloys and a new titanium zirconium material.
- The clinical indications for reduced diameter implants in different clinical situations.
- The rationale for considering reduced diameter implants for certain surgical situations and the need to maintain adequate bone walls for simultaneous bone augmentation will be presented.
