Bone Regeneration with BMP Protein
This lecture discusses possibilities for the use of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) in bone regeneration procedures. BMP-2 is a growth factor that has osteoinductive properties. Evidence of its safety and efficacy are given. Preclinical and clinical studies are shown to demonstrate that the use of this protein, when combined with different scaffolds, regenerates bone. Moreover, the use of BMP-2 can regenerate bone without complex surgical interventions, providing another option for bone regenerative procedures.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- explain the properties of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)
- describe the benefits of using BMP-2 for bone regenerative procedures
- discuss possible treatment strategies using BMP-2
